I don't believe there is a concise definition for music. It means different things to different people. For example, if I ask my sister this question, she would answer "I listen to music to pass time". When walking around campus I see my peers listening to some kind of electronic device. I assume most of them are listening to music but I dont know what song, genre, artist, etc.Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Are they listening to pass time until the next class? Perhaps it is a new album by a favorite band or artist? I don't consider myself an avid music lover. I do however appreciate music. Music improves my mood and helps my workouts. I listen mainly to music played on the radio. My friends on the other hand have favorite bands, artists and some even listen to what is considered"underground music".

In my opinion, music should try to provoke an emotion and tell a story to its listeners. For me to like a piece of music, it has to be upbeat, energetic and have rythm. I was born in Ghana, which is located in West Africa. I grew up listening to music in an entirely different language. Does this mean what I listen to today is completely different? The answer is no, it is simply in a different language. So if I have to define music, Music is a set of rythmic patterns that create harmonies and melodies with a language barrier.
